Matt haimowitz and Uccello

Renowned for his far-reaching musical adventures and fearlessly virtuosic performances, cellist Matt Haimovitz harnesses his eight-piece ensemble of “cello warriors”, Uccello, for a new program of jazz classics in original arrangements by Rome Prize-winning composer David Sanford. In works by Ornette Coleman, Charles Mingus, John McLaughlin (Mahavishnu), Miles Davis, Billy Strayhorn and other jazz legends, the cellos wail, slide, and swing in an all-new big band sound. The cellists are to perform at several venues in New York and Western Massachusetts this month before returning to Montreal to record the new program for release this fall on Oxingale Records.

French Collection - Paradizo

Paradizo’s eighth CD release is Antico / Moderno, a journey into music embellished throughout the ages, exploring the beauty of Renaissance madrigals with embellishments from as early as 1517 to 2009. Conceived by Skip Sempé, this time traveller’s journey demonstrates an incredible diversity of sound and colour, proving that this practice, born over 500 years ago, is still alive today. The solo instrumentalists are Doron Sherwin (cornetto), Julien Martin (recorder), Josh Cheatham (viola da gamba) and Skip Sempé (harpsichord). These stars of the international early music scene are accompanied by the Capriccio Stravagante Viols and the Capriccio Stravagante Recorders.
